Dr Petsoglou has just returned to our practise after a 4 year sabbatical in London. While in London he worked at Moorfields Eye Hospital completing a fellowship in Corneal and External Disease with Mr John Dart, a world expert in the treatment of corneal conditions. Thereafter he worked as a consultant for 3 years performing over 3000 eye operations. During his term as a consultant he conducted research into the treatment of abnormal corneal blood vessels. He was lead investigator in a randomised controlled trial showing that a drug named Avastin (bevacizumab) is effective in the regression of corneal blood vessels.

Dr Petsoglou studied at the University of Sydney completing his medical degree in 1995. He graduated with First Class honors and was awarded the University Medal for first place in his university studies. He then studied at the Sydney Eye Hospital gaining his Fellowship in Ophthalmology in 2003. He worked closely under the supervision of Prof. Frank Billson and Associate Prof Kathy McClellan in the treatment of corneal and paediatric eye conditions.

Dr Petsoglou will take the post of Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Clinical Ophthalmology for the University of Sydney in January 2012. He will also restart his role as a Clinical Associate of the Sydney Eye Hospital and Deputy Director of the Lions NSW Eye Bank in the New Year. His current research interests are in corneal blood vessel treatments and eye bank research.

Dr Petsoglou is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with expertise in the treatment of corneal and external eye disease conditions in adults and children. He performs corneal, cataract, refractive laser and eyelid surgeries. He is CASA accredited and Medicare Botulinum toxin certified.
