"What sort of laser is used at The Sydney Eye Specialist
Centre, is this the latest technology?"

We use the Schwind Esiris Excimer Laser. This is a 200 Herz Gaussian spot laser with one of the best available eye tracking systems.

The Schwind laser is used in conjunction with the ORK Wavefront Analyser and the Keratron Scout Corneal Topographer to permit custom corneal ablation if necessary.

This equipment embodies all of the latest refinements for corneal laser surgery. There is no better system available for corneal laser surgery.

"What is the sucess rate of the surgery? Is it hazardous?"

It is very rare in our 14 years of experience with laser refractive surgery to have an unsatisfactory outcome.

The process of laser vision correction is not perfectly predicable and it is not unusual to need an adjustment procedure a few months after initial treatment. This is included in the cost of the procedure. Incidence of secondary treatment is about 5%.

All surgical procedures including laser vision correction carry risk of complications some of which could cause permanent damage to vision. The chance of severe complication such as severe eye infection, kerectasia (corneal distortion), corneal scarring or retinal damage is very low.
