Before the surgery
You will be given a prescription for drops. Please obtain these prior to surgery and bring them with you unopened on the day of surgery.
Day of Surgery
Patients should wash their hair the day of surgery and wear clean comfortable clothing covering arms and legs. Make up should NOT be worn.
The operation is performed under a local anaesthetic and an Anaesthetist will administer sedation which will make you feel drowsy and relaxed.
You will NOT be able to drive yourself home on the day of surgery. Please arrange alternative transport to get yourself home following your procedure.
Wear clean, comfortable clothing covering arms and legs as you will not get changed. Wear flat comfortable shoes.
Surgery takes approximately 45 minutes. Overall time at the centre is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
The eye may be padded after the surgery.
You may experience some discomfort or irritation when the anaesthetic wears off. If you require any pain relief use Panadol rather than Aspirin or Disprin.
After the surgery
You will experience pain and irritation when the anaesthetic wears off. A prescription for pain relief will be provided by the doctor. Panadol and Nurofen can be taken as needed.
It is common that the eye is red, sensitive to glare and gritty. This generally improves over several weeks.
Avoid wind and sunlight by wearing sunglasses.
Showering may be resumed the day after surgery after the eye pad has been removed.
Make up can be worn one week after surgery.
It is advisable that you take 1-2 weeks off work following surgery, and stop sports for 1 week.
