Before the Surgery
You will be given a prescription for drops. Please obtain these prior to surgery and bring them with you unopened on the day of surgery.
Day of Surgery
Patients should wash their hair the day of surgery and wear clean comfortable clothing covering arms and legs. Make up should NOT be worn.
The operation is performed under a local anaesthetic and an Anaesthetist will administer sedation which will make you feel drowsy and relaxed.
You will NOT be able to drive yourself home on the day of surgery. Please arrange alternative transport to get yourself home following your procedure.
Upon arrival you are given hat and overshoes to wear into theatre, drops are instilled into the eye and admission is completed.
You walk in and out of theatre and the operation takes approximately 20 minutes. Overall time at the centre is 1.5-2 hours.
The eye may be padded after the surgery however we ask you to bring sunglasses with you incase your eye does not require a pad.
You may experience some discomfort or irritation when the anaesthetic wears off. If you require any pain relief use Panadol rather than Aspirin or Disprin.
Severe pain is not normal; please contact your doctor if you have severe pain.
