Used to treat
Myopia, Hypermetropia, Astigmatism, Cataract
Equipment used
Alcon Infinity Vision System (Phacoemulsifier)
Method
The natural lens of the eye is removed using phacoemulsification (emulsification of the lens using an ultrasonic hand piece) and is then replaced with an intraocular lens implant. We select very carefully the lens implanted so as to correct the patient’s refractive error. Some lens implants can correct astigmatism. Some implants are custom made to suit an individual need. The procedure is performed using local anesthesia and intra-venous sedation.
Recovery
Visual recovery is usually quick and many patients report better vision the next day. There is very little operative or post-operative pain. If two eyes need surgery the eyes are operated on separately usually a week apart.
