Treatment and Surgical Facilities

The Day Surgery at Kingsford provides facilities for all anterior segment eye surgery including cataract removal, laser refractive surgery, implantable contact lenses, corneal graft surgery, glaucoma surgery, corneal cross-linking and minor and major oculoplastic procedures of the eyelids.

Equipment in the surgical suite includes:

  • Zeiss Lumera operating microscope.
  • Alcon Infiniti phacoemulsifier for cataract surgery.
  • Haag-Streit UV cross-linking lamp for the treatment of keratoconus.
  • Moria DSAEK microkeratome for lamellar corneal grafting.
  • Schwind Esiris Excimer Laser for refractive procedures.

The Schwind Esiris Excimer Laser is a modern high-tech product engineered in Germany.

This is a 200Hz Gaussian spot laser with one of the best eye tracking systems available.

The Gaussian profile aids in spot blending and produces a significantly smoother corneal surface.

The Schwind encompasses the ORK-LINK software for individual topography and customised treatments when they are needed.

The system offers high patient comfort and important technical features such as;

  • Precise 0.8mm scanning spot laser
  • Low ablation depth and high corrections possible
  • Achieves one of the smoothest corneal surfaces
  • Reduced risk of post operative haze with PRK
  • Individual ablation profile possible
  • Enhanced zones of up to 9mm
  • Lowest thermal effects on the cornea
  • Quick post-operative recovery and tissue healing
