LASIK Surgery

Used to treat

Myopia, Hyperopia and Astigmatism

Equipment used

Micro-keratome, Schwind ESIRIS Excimer laser

Method

A micro-keratome is used to create a thin flap on the front surface of the eye (cornea). This flap is gently lifted back to expose the underlying cornea. The underlying cornea is then sculpted using the Schwind ESIRIS excimer laser in accordance to the patient’s individual refractive error. The corneal flap is then repositioned to it’s original position where it re adheres to the cornea without the use of sutures. Local anesthesia in the form of eye drops is used during the procedure, as well as a mild oral sedative if the patient so wishes.

Recovery

Recovery is generally relatively quick but there is discomfort on the day of the procedure. Vision may be very good or fluctuating on the days after surgery depending in the correction that has been necessary.
