Before the Surgery

  • If soft contact lenses are worn you will have to remove them at least 48 hours before the day of surgery. Hard contacts should be removed 7 days before surgery.
  • It is advised that you wash your hair on the day of surgery as you should avoid washing your hair for 24 hours following the procedure.

Day of Surgery

  • You will need to arrive at our Kingsford Surgery 30minutes prior to your scheduled procedure.
  • Take all regular medication as normal on the day
  • Do not wear makeup, clothing with loose fibres, perfume /aftershave or drink alcohol.
  • On admission post operative medication instructions will be given. We will offer you something to help you relax at this time along with pain relief preoperatively.
  • Anaesthetic drops are instilled to numb the eye for the procedure and the total time for the procedure is approximately 10 minutes per eye; the overall time at the centre is approximately 60-90 minutes.
  • You will NOT be able to drive yourself home on the day of surgery. Please arrange alternative transport to get yourself home following your procedure.
  • We suggest bringing sunglasses with you to wear home for eye protection.

After the Surgery / Recovery

  • You may experience some discomfort / pain or irritation when the anaesthetic wears off; make sure you have Panadol & Nurofen at home.
  • You will be seen the following day and usually one week after the procedure or as advised by your doctor.
  • Follow the written instructions for your eye drops and pain relief
  • Your vision will be blurry on the day of surgery
  • Showering may be resumed as normal, however avoid rubbing your eyes.
  • Sports may be resumed 2 weeks following your surgery.
  • Dusty / dirty environments should be avoided for 2 weeks and avoid rubbing your eyes.
  • Eye make up can usually be worn again 1 to 2 weeks after surgery.
